Legends AD716: UH-60A Black Hawk

The Sikorsky UH-60A Black Hawk is a utility helicopter developed in the 1970s by Sikorsky Aircraft for the United States Army as part of the Utility Tactical Transport Aircraft System (UTTAS) program. The Black Hawk first flew in 1974 and entered service in 1979. The UH-60A introduced improved survivability, lift capability, and reliability compared to earlier helicopters, quickly becoming the Army’s primary battlefield transport. The aircraft proved its versatility in a wide range of missions, including air assault, medical evacuation, logistics, and special operations, seeing extensive service in multiple combat theaters and numerous humanitarian missions worldwide. The UH-60A established the foundation for a large family of Black Hawk variants that continue to serve globally today.

SPECIFICATIONS

AD716 has been cut from the rear cabin door of UH-60A S/N 63-23847. UH-60A Black Hawk 83-23847 was built for the U.S. Army as part of the early generation of Black Hawks. Over its long service career, 83-23847 ultimately served with the 2-238th General Support Aviation Battalion, including in the “Hoosier DUSTOFF” medical evacuation role, carrying the distinctive red-and-white medical markings associated with Army aeromedical evacuation aircraft. After decades of Army service, 83-23847 was withdrawn from military use and entered the Army’s Black Hawk Exchange and Sales Team program, where it was offered for disposal alongside other retired UH-60As.
