Legends AD711: HC-130H Hercules

The Lockheed HC-130H Hercules served for decades as one of the U.S. Coast Guard’s primary long-range CSAR and maritime patrol aircraft. Developed from the rugged C-130 Hercules, the HC-130H entered Coast Guard service during the late 1960s and early 1970s and combined exceptional range, endurance, payload capacity, and the ability to operate from relatively short airfields. With mission endurance approaching 14 hours, the aircraft could search enormous stretches of ocean, coordinate rescue operations, and remain on scene far beyond the capabilities of most other Coast Guard aircraft. Continually upgraded with improved navigation, radar, communications, and surveillance equipment, the HC-130H became one of the most recognizable and enduring aircraft in Coast Guard aviation history, eventually giving way to the more advanced HC-130J Super Hercules after more than half a century of service.
