The Supermarine Spitfire is a British single-seat fighter that became one of the most iconic aircraft of WWII. Entering service in 1938, the Spitfire proved crucial during the Battle of Britain, where its speed and maneuverability allowed it to effectively counter German fighters. Throughout the war, the design evolved through numerous variants powered by Rolls-Royce Merlin and later Griffon engines, enabling the Spitfire to serve in roles ranging from air superiority and interception to reconnaissance and ground attack. Produced in greater numbers than any other British combat aircraft, the Spitfire remained in frontline service until the war’s end and beyond.

SPECIFICATIONS

AD704 has been cut from elevator fabric removed from Spitfire PV202. PV202 was constructed as a MK.IX Spitfire and post-war converted to a 2-seat MKTIX (Mk.T9). It has been fully restored and still flies to this day. This aircraft was featured on Top Gear. AD704 Air Drops are green or grey fabric.
