Legends AD304: TT-1 Pinto

The Temco TT-1 Pinto was a compact jet trainer developed in the late 1950s by Temco for the U.S. Navy as its first purpose-built jet primary trainer, intended to replace piston-powered trainers and introduce student aviators to jet operations earlier in their training. First flying in 1958, the TT-1 featured simple handling characteristics and a single Continental turbojet. Only 14 aircraft were built as the Navy ultimately found the Pinto underpowered and expensive to operate compared to emerging alternatives. Though its service life was brief, the TT-1 represented an important transitional step in naval pilot training as military aviation shifted fully into the jet age.
