Legends AD302: P-61B Black Widow

The Northrop P-61 Black Widow was the United States’ first aircraft specifically designed as a night fighter, developed during World War II to counter enemy bombers and threats using airborne radar - an advanced capability for its time. First entering combat in 1944, the twin-engine, twin-boom P-61 carried a powerful combination of 20mm cannons and .50 caliber machine guns. It served in both the European and Pacific theaters, where crews used its radar to hunt bombers, intercept night raiders, and even conduct ground attack missions. Though arriving relatively late in the war, the Black Widow proved highly effective and became one of the most distinctive and technologically sophisticated fighters of the conflict.
